On Sunday afternoon, December 8th, the Edamse Nicolaaskerk proudly displayed the 'Sold Out' sign as concertgoers immersed themselves in a captivating rendition by Zang Edam of parts 1, 3, and 6 of Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium.
The presence of a choir of such remarkable consistency in a relatively small community like Edam is truly noteworthy. It showcases the significance of 'big things in small towns,' as one audience member aptly expressed their admiration.
Under the direction of Benjamin Bakker, Zang Edam delivered an exceptional concert. Bass Pierre Mak stood out with a commanding performance, while the soprano, alto, and tenor singers also excelled in their roles.
The instrumental accompaniment by the Swes Barok Orkest added another layer of brilliance to the performance. The orchestra's focus on baroque music, using ancient instruments, highlighted the challenges faced due to the variable temperatures in the Nicolaaskerk. Noteworthy were the outstanding contributions of the timpanist and the lead trumpeter, musicians of high European caliber, enhancing the musical experience.
Zang Edam is gearing up for their next concert on May 11th. Those interested in joining the choir can reach out to the Zang Edam secretary at 0299-372330. Further information is available on www.zangedam.nl.
